BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS NEEDS YOU!
Weather looks good for the B&G Spring Cleanup workday. Come on out and help us spruce up our Old Stone Church, Dodd Hall, and surrounding gardens and grounds. Here are some of the tasks we will be tackling this Saturday from 10 a.m. to ??
Old Stone Church inside:
- Wax on carpet: Wax has dripped from the candle snuffer onto the carpet of the chancel and there are many small wax small wax blobs that need to be removed. Maybe you have some experience with this at home and have your own technique. If so, bring it on! If not, Google tells us there are basically two techniques we could try: 1) use an ice pack to make the wax harden and then use a plastic putty knife and a tiff bristle brush to loosen it from the carpet and vacuum up the wax crumbs (https://www.architecturaldigest.com/…/how-to-get-wax… ). 2) put and absorbent cloth (e.,g, cotton towel) over the wax and use an clothes iron to heat it up, hopefully absorbing the melted wax into the cloth–repeat until it is all soaked up (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoA5AGm6yCQ ). Ice, towels, brushes, and an iron will be provided or bring your own equipment.
- Mop wood floors under pews: Murphy’s oil soap and bucket and mop will be available, or bring your own supplies/equipment
- Clean stairs to balcony: Murphy’s oil soap, sponge, and bucket will be provided, or bring your own supplies/equipment.
Old Stone Church outside:
- Assist with checking and readying the mechanism hanging our new “Progress Pride” flag.
Gardens:
- General cleaning out of leaves, branches, et cetera. Weed. Check condition of plants.
- Prune Arborvitae on west side of Old Stone Church (OSC). Need to be comfortable using manual pruning shears and loopers from a ladder (two people for safety).
Dodd Hall inside:
- General cleaning.
- Replace some light bulbs (including one ceiling fixture using a special pole).
Dodd Hall outside:
- Glean gutters using a leaf blower (we may decide to delay until after the oaks finish flowering and dropping their catkins).
Grounds:
- A skilled crew will be cutting up the tree that fell–help is needed to haul the branches and logs to piles on the edge of the woodlot.
- General raking, leaf blowing, picking up debris, cleanup, et cetera.
