Music

Music is an important part of our community, both in and out of Sunday Services. We run the gamut from choir rehearsals to drum circles, from Open Mic nights to an ad hoc xylophone ensemble. Our goal is to be joyful and inclusive. We strive to create moments of beauty and reflection as well as moments of laughter and joyful play.

The Old Stone Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings at 7:30 to prepare for performances. We usually perform two or three songs each month, along with helping lead the weekly hymns. You can see some of our past performances below. Our selections are eclectic to meet the needs of a variety of passions. All are welcome to attend.

Drum Circles take place quarterly, close to the Solstice or Equinox. We gather in a circle to feel the pulse of time, to communicate wordlessly with one another, and to tell stories through rhythm. Our motto is "Bring a Chair and Something to Bang On!"

We also have occasional concerts throughout the year, either alone or in collaboration with other groups. We joined with Congregation Kehilat Shalom for two Songs for Humanity concerts, fundraising, and spreading information about refugees (2020) and food scarcity (2021). We have also joined with local musicians from neighboring houses of worship for the annual Interfaith Thanksgiving Service, and with other Unitarian Universalist groups for shared music days.

Instrumentalists also have a home at FUUFHC. We have had several Open Mics (also called Community Coffeehouses) for casual performances, as well as guest musicians at services, especially at our annual Music Sunday.

Come join in our song, as audience or creator. Music is in all of us, and it is a beautiful way to connect.
