Partner with the NORWESCAP Food Bank to fight hunger

Here are three easy ways you can help FUUFHC partner with the NORWESCAP Food Bank to fight hunger in northwestern New Jersey:

(1) Drop off canned goods and other nonperishable food in the bins just inside the door to Dodd Hall. Protein foods are most needed. Donate any time; the bins are emptied regularly.

(2) Join other FUUFHC folks at the NORWESCAP Food Bank in Phillipsburg on the third Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. till noon. We clean and sort food salvaged from stores to prepare it for distribution to 120 food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters. The sign up sheet is on a bulletin board near the office in Dodd Hall, or you can email Becky Engborg at bengborg@yahoo.com.

(3) Easiest of all! Put your money in the collection plate at a Sunday service. By a congregational vote, half of our 2009-2010 plate will go to the NORWESCAP Food Bank. We are making a difference in people’s daily lives!

Want to Volunteer at the Food Bank?

On the third Saturday of every month, our fellowship sends a work crew to the NORWESCAP Food Bank in Phillipsburg. We work from 9 a.m. to noon, mostly cleaning, inspecting and sorting nonperishable food that’s been salvaged from stores or donated. We get the food ready to be distributed to 120 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and other agencies that feed those in need.

If you’d like to be on a crew, there’s a sign-up sheet on a bulletin board near the office in Dodd Hall, or you can email Becky Engborg at bengborg@yahoo.com. The Food Bank is located at 201 North Broad Street, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865. It’s a warehouse building with a wheelchair ramp out front; you enter through the thrift shop. Plenty of on-street parking.

Children are welcome if they are able to work at a job for about three hours.
We have people of all ages who volunteer. It’s a great activity for families or individuals, teens, groups such as covenant groups or RE classes, and people who are new to FUUFHC and want to get to know fellowship folks in a different setting. Give it a try!
