Covenant Groups

What are Covenant Groups?
Covenant Groups are small monthly gatherings that meet for the purpose of getting to know each other on a deeper level, developing a richer spirituality, and reaching out to others.

Why Covenant Groups?
Most churches have group meetings, but a Covenant Group has five characteristics in common: a shared format, a trained leader, a small size, regular meetings, and a covenant. Groups meet at least monthly in homes or at church. Covenant Groups also make a covenant — or a promise — how the members intend to relate to each other and how they, as a group, will serve the church.

Why Should I Join a Covenant Group?
Covenant Groups help people to get to know each other on a deeper level, encourage the development of a richer spirituality, and give participants the opportunity to work together to help others.

How to join?
Covenant groups are advertised in the weekly bulletin. Just contact the group leader or see Marion McCord or Jenny Denlinger for more in formation about individual covenant groups. Full group descriptions can be found here: Covenant Groups

Three New Covenant Group in Fall 2010

Circle of Friendship

Dave Chapman, Facilitator

Because of the growth and success of the Men’s Group covenant group within our congregation, a new group is being formed with monthly meetings scheduled to begin in September. We hope to develop the kind of spiritual growth that enables us to be better friends, stronger partners, more supportive fathers and wiser members of our church. We will encourage an atmosphere of acceptance and openness so that all our members will feel they can speak freely, comfortably, and with the confidence that their thoughts will be held safely within the group. For information about joining this new men’s group, please contact Dave Chapman via cellphone or e-mail him.

Raising Daughters Covenant Group

Jenny Denlinger, Facilitator

Brand new in September 2010, this group is open to mothers and fathers interested in exploring/discussing/sharing the challenges and issues of raising daughters in contemporary society.  We will meet for ten months, September through June.  For more information about this group, or to sign up, call Jenny Denlinger at home phone or e-mail her.

Myth, Magic, and Transformation

Cara Simonetta, Facilitator

This covenant group will use Joseph Campbell’s The Power of Myth series as a starting point for exploration of our personal, as well as, human roots and mythologies. In the course of 8 to 10 gatherings, we will cover some of mankind’s archetypal and transformational stories, and discuss and write our own creation stories.  This group is open to those hardy souls, unafraid of the dark recesses of the human psyche, open to everything, and nothing, and, mostly, looking for good conversations among peers. For information about joining, call Cara Simonetta or e-mail her.

These existing groups have openings: Creative Connections (Susan Bromirski-Gorton Facilitator), Spiritual Journeys (Marion McCord facilitator), The Seventh Principles Covenant Group (Dave Jenkins facilitator)
