Caring Committee & Share Chain

Caring Committee

The purpose of the Caring Committee is to nurture the sense of belonging to and participation in a caring community by sending messages and tokens of support to, and coordinating assistance for, members and friends of the Fellowship who are going through milestone life events. This may include, but is certainly not limited to, births/new adoptions, deaths, and illness.

The Caring Committee is divided by regions, with committee members coordinating services to people within their own region.  Committee members may provide the support directly, or organize a larger Fellowship response (depending on the need).  In the past, the Caring Committee has provided “casserole brigade” services, volunteered time, and sent tokens (cards, flowers, etc.) to show our community support.

If you have such an event in your life, or know of someone who does, please contact Jane Dennison, who coordinates the group, or caring@hunterdonuu.org.  The committee always strives to balance offering assistance while respecting individuals need for privacy.

Sharing Chain

The Sharing Chain is similar, but separate from, UU candles for Joys & Concerns at Sunday service.  A confidential phone chain offers to focus each day for a week on the caller’s request.  When called with a joy or concern, each Sharing Chain link agrees to “focus good thoughts” or “hold it to the light” or “pray” according to individual practice and belief. Many callers choose not to specify “outcomes”, but simply ask for focus, strength, wisdom, or support.  Joys and concerns passed to the Sharing Chain are only passed to members of the chain.

To share a joy or concern with the Sharing Chain, contact Jane Dennison or caring@hunterdonuu.org.
