FUUFHC CommUNITY Networking Event
Talking Stick Circle and Dessert Party
Tuesday, May 1st, 2012, 7pm at Dodd Hall
On May Day, known as a day of fertile creativity and growth, FUUFHC is answering the call for deepening relationships and sharing skills!
We celebrate our loving community and our growing social justice activity with IHN, Norwescap, Family Alliance Ministry and our newest adventures with Habitat for Humanity.
As we extend our contribution to the greater community, we are drawn to also look within. In the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi’s inspirational wisdom – we seek to “be the change we want to see in the world”. We are called to deepen our connections within our congregation.
So, in the spirit of Native America we will begin with a program of storytelling, then gather in circle for a talking stick ritual where you are invited to draw closer, network, reveal your talents, and exchange ideas, dreams, and hopes! Our ultimate success, both as individuals and as a society, is intertwined with the mutual support of sustainable CommUNITY. You won’t want to miss this premier event full of friendship, surprises, sharing and a chance to hear each other and be heard! Please bring your open heart, your imagination and a favorite dessert to share!
Sacred Wisdom Discussion Series
Do you wish you knew more about the important books of the world – the books that contain the great wisdom of centuries? Rev. Bob is delighted to announce the “Sacred Wisdom Discussion Series.” At every session, we’ll discuss one book of profound spiritual or religious significance. Two hours only allows for the briefest of introductions when it comes to such layered works of genius, but it may be enough to whet your appetite. And each month, the session leader will seek to impress upon you why the book may be significant to YOUR life, that you’re living now.
These sessions will take place in Clinton Bookshop, 12 E. Main Street, Clinton. They are open to the general public as well as FUUFHC friends and members. Admission is free, but each month you are encouraged to purchase the book directly from Clinton Bookshop (and yes, you can purchase e-books and books online from them – or give them a call and they’ll be glad to order it!). The first two sessions are:
Thursday, May 31, 7 pm: “Walden.”. Henry David Thoreau’s classic text is still a joy to read, a century and a half later. Walden: or Life in the Woods is about a little of everything: nature, society, humanity, the earth. Whether or not you’ve ever had a chance to read it, come discuss this amazing book, “that you might live deliberately”. Order a copy of the book by calling 908-735-8811. Any edition is fine and most are under $10.
BROTHER SUN TO PERFORM AT THE OLD STONE CHURCH
SUNDAY JUNE 3, 2012 at 2 PM.
Come join us for an afternoon of beautiful harmonies with *Brother Sun.* Following coffee hour, come join us for a potluck lunch at 12:00 p.m., and a 2 p.m. concert. Tickets are $15.
The powerful new harmony trio *Brother Sun* comprised of Joe Jencks, Greg Greenway, and Pat Wictor have made their mark as veteran touring singer-songwriters, but Brother Sun is no songwriter’s round. The trio’s harmonies, as much as their lyrics, tell what they are about: warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel choir, and rousing as a call to arms. Fusing folk, Americana, blues, pop, jazz, rock, and a cappella singing, Brother Sun is an explosion of musical diversity and harmony, in the finest of male singing traditions. Their combined musical skills make for an unforgettable experience – three rich voices blending on a well-crafted foundation of guitar, slide guitar, bouzouki, and piano. This is a concert you will not want to miss!
